Athletics is a group of sporting events that include running, jumping,
throwing and walking.
Athletics is also called track and field sports or track and field
Track and field athletics are the oldest forms of organized sport,
having developed out of the most basic human activities – walking,
running, jumping, and throwing.
Track events involve all forms of running and walking.
Field events are jumping and throwing events.
Running:
Sprint : 100m, 200m, 400m
Middle distance: 800m, 1500m
Long :3000m Steeplechase, 5000m, 10,000m,
Hurdles : 110m, 400m
Relay: 4x100m, 4x400m, mixed 4x400m
Marathon: 42.195 km

Throwing:

Walking: Race walking is a long distance race event in which the athlete must walk
As fast as they can, The competitors are penalized for bending the knee as it passes under the body or having no foot-to-ground contact
Men’s :20 km Walk
50 km Walk
Women’s : 20 km walk
Combined event:
Men’s decathlon and Women’s heptathlon is combination of events held over 2 days each.
For each event points are awarded and the athlete with the highest point is the winner.
Decathlon : 10 events in the following order
Day 1: 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m.
Day 2: 110m hurdles, discuss throw, pole vault, javelin, 1500m
Heptathlon : 7 events in the following order
Day 1 : 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m
Day 2 : long jump, javelin and 800m
